Dr. Salil Agarwala has been practising as a Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon in Mumbai since 1996. He completed his MBBS in 1990 from TN Medical College, Mumbai, where he had an outstanding record of topping the college with distinctions in all the subjects, and is credited with being the only student to have achieved this feat in the University until then.
Subsequently he proceeded to KEM Hospital, Mumbai, for postgraduate training in Ophthalmology, one of the premier institutes in India offering this course. He gained wide experience in the field, being exposed to all types of challenging cases at this institution. Topping the fellowship examination, he continued as a teaching staff at the same hospital for a year, teaching undergraduate medical students and resident ophthalmologists.
In 1995, Dr. Agarwala moved to National Nagoya Hospital, Nagoya, Japan, to further specialise in the field of vitreous and retina, under the world-renowned Dr. F Ando of Japan. Spending a year under Dr. Ando exposed him to the latest and best technological advances in the field of vitreo-retinal surgery, and provided invaluable clinical experience to deal with all types of complicated retinal cases.
Dr. Salil Agarwala has extensive experience in the use of lasers for retinal disorders and in managing retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, diabetic eye disease, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, age-related macular degeneration, inflammation of the eye (uveitis), ocular trauma, retinopathy of prematurity and retinal vascular conditions. He has been practising at his centre which is fully equipped with the latest systems, for both posterior and anterior segment disorders of the eye. The Agarwala Eye Clinic and Laser Centre has the latest imaging systems such as Cirrus HD-OCT, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography Camera, Green Laser from Iridex, USA, and has recently acquired the latest Constellation Vision System from Alcon, USA, for excellent surgical outcomes.
In addition to his professional commitments, the award-winning Dr. Agarwala makes time to attend conferences and symposia connected to his field. He has been a speaker, moderator and convenor regularly at the annual conferences of the Bombay Ophthalmologists' Association held over the past years.
